Cedarville is a village of 3828 residents (2000) in Greene County , Ohio , United States . The place is on the railway line from Cincinnati and Columbus (Ohio) . The Massie Creek flows through the village.

The place was founded in 1801 by John and Thomas Townsley. The place was first called Milford , but was renamed Cedarville because of the risk of confusion with Milford (Ohio) .

Cedarville is the seat of the private evangelical Cedarville University .
