Marcellus McCarver , better known as Celly Cel , is an American rapper and hip-hop - producer . His music can be classified into the categories of West Coast Hip-Hop , Gangsta Rap , Hardcore Rap and G-Funk .

Career

McCarver grew up in Vallejo , California . There he started doing hip-hop in 1990 and producing demo recordings . He eventually got a recording deal with E-40's label Sick Wid It , whose products were distributed by Jive Records . About this 1994 his debut album Heat 4 Yo Azz was released. Already in the following year the successor Killa Kali appeared , which became his greatest sales success and was able to place itself on rank 4 of the "Top R & B / Hip-Hop Albums" of the Billboard magazine . Still, it wasn't until 1998 before his third work, The G Filez , was released. In the meantime, however, he was represented as a guest interpreter on projects by numerous other rappers.

He then parted ways with Sick Wid It , who then released a best-of compilation in 1999. Celly Cel then founded his own label with Realside , through which he released his fourth album Deep Conversation in 2000 . In addition, the work Criminal Activity appeared about this in 2001 , which he recorded with Spice 1 under the group name Criminalz. In addition to the two rappers, Jayo Felony was also fully involved, although he was only mentioned as a guest performer on the cover .

Another compilation followed in 2002 with Song'z U Can't Find , this time consisting of Celly Cel's guest appearances and other recordings that were previously only published in small editions. In 2005 a new studio album, It'z Real Out Here, was released, followed in 2006 by Slaps, Straps & Baseball Hats , The Wild West and The Gumbo Pot , as well as the group album Bad, recorded with D Enemy, Mac Reese and Protajay under the name Hillside Stranglaz Influence .

Celly Cel's output slowed down and in addition to various compilations, only the EP Big Faces followed in 2012 and the albums Morphine X and Dirty Mind in 2013 and 2017 . He also remained active as a guest rapper.
