Celum is a proprietary software for digital asset management (DAM) from the Austrian company of the same name, CELUM GmbH. The system focuses on the management and distribution of files through integration and connection to other systems ( e.g. CMS , ERP , PIM , eCommerce ). The software solution is usually referred to as Celum DAM in order to differentiate between company and product.

Range of functions

The core function is uploading, administration, enrichment with metadata , access and rights management, delivery and control of digital content such as photos, videos, PDFs, graphics and office files. Content flow control - a solution for time and parameter-controlled distribution of media to any channels. Creation, approval and content review workflows for marketing teams.

A long list of integrations and connectors to external solutions is also offered.

Distribution / areas of application

According to the company, around 850 organizations with 1 million users worldwide use the Celum DAM software (as of 2018).

The software is offered as a SaaS on-premise , private cloud and cloud solution. The focus here is on companies and multinational corporations that prefer a cross-border pure DAM solution.

Celum DAM has been marketed under different names since 2003 and is continuously being further developed.

  • 2003/2004 - Market launch as Celum Imagine as an "Image Management System" image database.
  • 2006 - With Celum Imagine 3 alignment and designation as a "Digital Asset Management" system. Integrations in Adobe Photoshop / Indesign and MS Office . Close partnership with SAP Hybris and sales of the DAM solution as an OEM extension with the Hybris e-commerce and PIM product
  • 2008/2009 - Introduction of Celum Synergy as a solution specifically for large companies with multidimensional content management capabilities. Introduction of own SDK and REST API functions in addition to the existing SOAP API .
  • 2012 - Introduction of portal functions to be able to distribute content across different target groups and security zones.
  • 2015 - Merger of Celum Imagine and Celum Synergy in Celum DAM for large implementations and damcloud.com as a cloud-based solution for more compact projects.
  • 2017 - Expansion to include a cloud-based procurement solution for stock content.
  • 2018 - Expansion of the Celum DAM through workrooms with a collaboration and tasking component, which is also available as a single product.

technology

In terms of technology, Celum DAM is based on Java and JavaScript in the user interface and is a cloud application with corresponding scalability and the option of also being operated on premise . In what is now the third technology generation, CELUM DAM relies on RXJava, Vert.x , JanusGraph DB and Angular with RxJS . CELUM DAM was the first commercial product based on the Spring framework in 2004 . Celum's CTO at the time, Jürgen Höller, was a major contributor to the open-source Spring framework alongside Rod Johnson .
