Cemal Reşit Rey

Cemal Reşit Rey (born October 25, 1904 in Jerusalem , † October 7, 1985 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish composer .

After studying piano with Marguérite Long , Rey attended the Conservatory in Geneva from 1914 to 1919 and studied composition with Raoul Laparra in Paris until 1923 . From 1932 he was professor of piano and composition at the Istanbul Conservatory. From 1946 he was conductor of the symphony orchestra and the symphonic society, and from 1949 he was head of the music department of Radio Istanbul. He belonged to the Turkish Five , the group of the first professional composers in Turkey.

Rey composed several operas and operettas and a revue, two symphonies , two symphonic poems , three symphonic scherzi , three piano, two violin concertos and a cello concerto, piano pieces and choral songs.
