Community Cenacolo
The community Cenacolo (Cenacolo translates as “having dinner together”) is an institution in various countries for young people in crisis situations , especially with problems with drugs .
history
The Cenacolo Community was founded on July 16, 1983 by the Italian sister Elvira Petrozzi . In Saluzzo , near Turin , she set up her first house for young people in crisis, especially those with drug problems.
The community today has over 70 houses in Italy and around the world (Austria, Slovakia, France, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Poland, Great Britain, Ireland, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Liberia / Africa, Costa Rica) and is home to around 2000 boys and girls. Head office is in Saluzzo. The house in Kleinfrauenhaid in Burgenland is currently the only branch in the German-speaking area.
On October 16, 2009, the Cenacolo community was founded by Pope Benedict XVI. recognized as a spiritual community and included in the official register of the Pontifical Council for the Laity .
methodology
The community methodology is a focus on friendship and honesty . Young people are helped to find new perspectives for their life in a coexistence . This happens through trust in the healing power of the Gospel , the path to the Christian community , prayer and work. (Ora et labora) .
The young people from different countries learn to work together in the community according to a very simple daily program, to exchange their experiences, to gradually track down the causes of their drug or alcohol illness and to develop strategies together to overcome their problem.
The girls and boys live in separate houses.
Organization and facilities
There are over 70 houses worldwide:
- Men : e.g. B. in Poland , Croatia , the USA , Italy, France and Austria
- Women : e.g. B. in Italy, USA, France and in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The German sponsoring association Friends of the Community Cenacolo Germany eV has its seat in Munich .
admission
Admission to the community is independent of nationality and religious belief . The central language is Italian and is taught to everyone. Each youth , the newly added, receives a personal companion, the so-called "guardian angel" who helps him away on the difficulties of the beginning and he always helpful stands aside. The “Guardian Angel”, who was once addicted to drugs himself, has a deep understanding of the situation of the other and remembers his own way out of the drug through this service. At the same time, it is living proof that the drug disease can be overcome. The high cure rate - approx. 80% are permanently cured of the drug disease according to the house - confirms this therapy .
The cost of the stay, which usually lasts two to four years, is borne by friends and benefactors of the community. The Cenacolo Community lives by providence - these are those benefactors who are ready to help young people in their new beginnings. Specifically, providence means here: donating money or in kind .
