Centamin plc is a public company that primarily operates gold mining on the Arab-Nubian shield . The company is legally registered on the British Channel Island of Jersey , the administrative headquarters are in Mount Pleasant (Western Australia ). Additional offices exist in London ( United Kingdom ) and Alexandria ( Egypt ). The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and Toronto Stock Exchange and is part of the FTSE 250 Index .
history
Centamin was first listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1970 . In 1999 the company acquired Pharaoh Gold Mines, which had been searching for gold in Egypt since 1995. After the takeover, the name was changed to "Centamin Egypt". The company was granted exploration rights in 2005 for a 160 square kilometer area in the eastern desert of Egypt that became known as the Sukari Gold Project. Two years later, in 2007, the company's shares were also listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange to raise funds to build the mine. The first gold was mined in June 2009, so-called continuous commercial production started in 2010. In November 2009 the company moved to the London Stock Exchange and was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2010.
In 2011 Centamin moved its headquarters to the Channel Island of Jersey and changed the official company name to "Centamin plc".

The company operates the Sukari gold mine in the eastern desert of Egypt approx. 700 km from Cairo and approx. 25 km from the Red Sea . Sukari is the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country that was important as a gold producer in ancient times.
