Central Park is a German progressive rock band from Munich, founded in 1983 .

history

The band, which was founded in the early 1980s, was about to sign a contract with Chrysalis Records when singer Heiko Möckel left for personal reasons in 1989 and the formation was disbanded.

Inspired by Rick Wakeman after a Yes concert in the Olympiahalle Munich , it was re-established in 2005 with the original line-up. The first appearance took place in 2006 at the Theatron MusikSommer . In the same year, the debut album unexpected appeared with an enclosed DVD , and the specialist press became aware of the band. Among other things, the music magazine Rolling Stone awarded three stars for the album. Most of the songs recorded were from the 1980s. The female singing voice on the album comes from the musical singer Dagmar Hellberg.

After the album was released, Central Park focused on stage appearances, including as support for Fish , Pavlov's Dog and Subsignal . At the beginning of 2008 a live album from an Unexpected concert was released, also with an accompanying DVD. Frontman Heiko Möckel was supported vocally at the concert by the Munich soprano Corinna Reithuber aka "Cory Godess". The album and DVD were recorded in 2007 at the 1st Munich Prog Night. In July 2008, Central Park performed in front of several thousand people at the Night of the Prog Festival.

After singer Heiko Möckel moved to Cologne , he was replaced by singer Jannine Pusch in early summer 2010, which led to musical changes. In January 2011 the album reflected was released . Most of the texts on it were contributed by Pusch. Not only the online music magazine vampster emphasized that the central component of the album is the long track Vision of Cassandra , which is divided into three parts and whose content is based on the picture of the same name by Munich photographer Aniela Adams.

Since 2012 the band has been performing again with the original singer. In 2013 drummer Artur Silber left the formation and was replaced by Holger Röder. In 2013 Central Park released another live album with concert recordings from the Munich Theatron Festival in the summer of 1985, at the same time the DVD Live at Theatron Munich with recordings from 2011. Classic Rock magazine titled its review of the publication with the words: “Historically valuable, qualitative high quality " .

In the late summer of 2015, Heiko Möckel said goodbye to Central Park. At the end of October 2015, the singer Bärbel Kober succeeded him.

After the recordings for "AT THE BURIAL VAULT", Holger Röder left the band at the end of 2017, after he started working on the new Acoustic project from Central Park in collaboration with the Austrian actor Ferdinand Pregartner - VERBAL-INFERNO meets ACOUSTIC-ROCK! "- couldn't befriend.

With the new drummer Arnold Zöhrer, who has a more percussive background, Central Park finally broke away from the bombast sound they had played so far and discovered, according to the new motto "KEEP IT SIMPLE", that progressive rock can very well do without effects. Both older and pieces from the current studio album "AT THE BURIAL VAULT" have been rearranged and surprisingly reinterpreted in a pure acoustic sound. Filigree. Virtuoso. Powerful voice.
