The Ibiza power plant ( Spanish: Central Térmica de Ibiza ) is a gas turbine power plant on the Balearic island of Ibiza .

description

The power plant near the port of Ibiza Town was commissioned with marine diesel engines in 1971 and expanded with gas turbines over the years. The total installed capacity of the 6 groups with 15 generation units today amounts to a total of 366 megawatts, about half of which consists of diesel engines and the other half of gas turbines.

The Ibiza power plant consists of 13 diesel engines of different power, two engines with 18.3 MW, two engines with 16 MW, three engines with 15.5 MW, four engines with 8.3 MW and two engines with 3 MW. For emergencies and to cover peak loads, two gas turbines were installed, one with an output of 25 MW and the other with 14 MW. Another 25 MW gas turbines were added. Since 2011, the power plant has been operated primarily with natural gas, the existing diesel tank systems serve as fuel reserves for emergency situations.

The system also integrates a gas turbine with a nominal output of 14 MW for the island of Formentera , which is connected to Ibiza via a 30 kV submarine cable.

The operator is the Spanish energy company GESA- Endesa . The power plant can be visited from Monday to Friday by appointment.
