history

Centravo ( Centra le V erkaufs- O rganisation) emerged in 1990 from the merger of the three self-help organizations HFZ, Häute- und Fettwerk AG in Zurich, Hauteverwertung Basel, Fettwerk Basel, HAFEBA and the Central Swiss Butchers' Cooperative (GZM) . Its roots go back to 1889 when self-help organizations of butchers' associations were founded in Zurich, Basel and Bern to market slaughter by-products, mainly hides and fats, and later also for processing bones and slaughterhouse waste. The CENTRAVO Group has been structured as a holding company since the beginning of 2010 and operates as Centravo Holding AG.

For the export of food-grade slaughter by-products , a plant was built in Oensingen from 2015 , which is operated by the subsidiary Swiss Nutrivalor AG. In 2019, Swiss Nutrivalor received the license to export pork products to China. Around 6000 tons of pig feet are to be delivered every year.
