During violent riots in response to the publication of a Mohammed caricature in the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo , the building of the media library with 20,000 documents was destroyed by arson on January 16, 2015. Including the damage to two vehicles, the property damage amounted to more than 500 million CFA francs . The newly built and stocked media library was opened on November 27, 2017 in the presence of the Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou and the French Ambassador Marcel Escure .
