The Center Culturel Oumarou Ganda (CCOG) is a cultural center in the city of Niamey in Niger .

Area

The Center Culturel Oumarou Ganda is located in the Route Filingué district in the Niamey IV arrondissement . It is close to the Wadata bus station and market .

Like the Center Culturel Franco-Nigérien (CCFN), another important cultural center in Niamey, the CCOG is used for recreational activities. It extends over an area of eight hectares . Theater performances, concerts and film screenings take place here. The grounds include an amphitheater with a capacity of 5,000, a bar and a library with French-language books and magazines.

The sculptor Issoufou Lankondé created a bust of Oumarou Ganda for the center . The first plaster version was made in 1981. After it was damaged, Lankondé made a second bust.

history

The cultural center was built to host the fifth edition of the Festival National de la Jeunesse and opened in April 1980. In April 1981 it was named after the late film director Oumarou Ganda.

Popular actor Yazi Dogo , who had previously directed a theater company in Zinder , founded the Troupe Théâtrale du CCOG in 1983 , which was renamed Troupe Théâtrale Yazi Dogo soon after him . The ensemble, to which Oumarou Neïno also belonged, was one of the most famous permanent theater troupes in the country, to which television broadcasts of performances on the state broadcaster ORTN contributed. Every year, usually in February, the troupe organized a well-attended theater week with comedies at the Center Culturel Oumarou Ganda.

The musician Malam Maman Barka was director of the CCOG from 2009. In 2011 the center was given the legal form of an établissement public à caractère administratif (EPA), which is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture, but operates financially autonomously. In 2017, middle school teacher Souley Limane Korimi was appointed head of the CCOG.
