Niamey IV is one of the five arrondissements of the Nigerien capital Niamey .
geography
Niamey IV is to the east of the city on the left bank of the Niger River . The Arrondissement borders Commune III in the northwest and the southwest, across the river at Niamey V . To the north, urban development is restricted by the wide green belt of Niamey .
Niamey IV consists of an urban area, which in 27 Neighborhood (quarters) is divided, and a rural area with seven villages (villages) and nine villages (hameaux) .

history
Niamey IV was founded in 1996 as a municipality (French: commune urbaine ) within the city of Niamey. Until that year, Niamey consisted of only three boroughs. The area of Niamey IV belonged to the former municipality of Niamey II. In 2010 the municipalities of Niamey were converted into arrondissements.

At the 2001 census, Niamey IV had 165,347 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 274,484.
