Niamey 2000 is a neighborhood ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey IV of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

Niamey 2000 is located to the east of the Niamey urban parish. The neighboring districts are Saga Fandou in the north and Sary Koubou in the south. Further to the east, in the rural municipality, are the hamlets of Fandoga and Fandora . The Niamey Green Belt extends west of Niamey 2000 . Like the entire northeast of Niamey, the city district is located in a plateau with a layer of sand less than 2.5 meters deep, which means that only limited infiltration is possible. When it rains heavily, the water stands in the streets and cannot drain away.

history

Niamey 2000 was founded in the late 1990s as a model district for the new millennium. Open spaces for schools and parks were planned in the grid-like network of wide streets. The further development of the infrastructure was slow. The architecture office United4Design (Yasaman Esmaili, Elizabeth Golden, Mariam Kamara and Philip Sträter) realized the Niamey 2000 residential complex of the same name in the district in 2016 , whose neo-traditional architecture attracted international attention.

population

At the 2012 census, the neighborhood had 7,210 inhabitants living in 1,158 households.

Infrastructure

The R12 water tank in Niamey 2000 has a capacity of 2000 cubic meters. It opened in 2013 and supplies the Niamey 2000, Bobiel , Cité Député , Dan Zama Koira , Saga Fandou and Sary Koubou districts with drinking water.
