Pays Bas-Tondi Gammé is located in the south of the urban parish of Niamey. The Niamey Airport area extends northeast of the district . The surrounding districts are Talladjé in the northwest, Aéroport I in the east, Aéroport II in the southeast, Saga Sahara in the southwest and the industrial area of Gamkalley Golley in the west. The soil in the north of Pays Bas-Tondi Gammé is rich in iron, which means that infiltration is not possible. In the south it consists of a layer of sand less than 2.5 meters deep.

The district consists of two settlements, Pays Bas (Saga Kourtey) in the northwest and Tondi Gammé in the southeast, between which there is a strip of land with gardens. While Pays Bas has a reputation for being a poor neighborhood, the smaller Tondi Gammé is considered a more upscale residential area.

history

The area was already inhabited by herders in the 1930s. The two settlements Pays Bas and Tondi Gammé emerged towards the end of the 20th century and showed strong population growth at the turn of the 21st century. Around 2012 they were administratively merged to form the new Pays Bas-Tondi Gammé district.

population

At the 2012 census, Pays Bas-Tondi Gammé had 31,222 inhabitants who lived in 4,839 households. At the 2001 census, the population of Pays Bas (Saga Kourtey) was 7,551 in 1,167 households.
