Aéroport II (also: Aviation II , Extension Aéroport ) is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey IV of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

Aéroport II is located on the eastern edge of the urban municipality of Niamey. From the eponymous airport Niamey (Aéroport de Niamey) , Aéroport II is separated from the Aéroport I district . The soils in Aéroport II are predominantly rich in iron, which means that no infiltration is possible. To the west begins a plateau with a layer of sand less than 2.5 meters deep. In the traditional system of rule (chefferie traditionnelle) , the district is subordinate to the head of the Saga canton .

history

Aéroport II was founded in the late 1960s as a southern extension of the Aéroport I district from the 1950s. The aim was to create new living space for airport employees and military personnel who could no longer find accommodation in Aéroport I. For this purpose, the state parceled land in the north of Aéroport II and sold them, while informal settlements emerged in the south of the new district , which were not legalized until 2009.

population

At the 2012 census, Aéroport II had 9271 inhabitants who lived in 1337 households. At the 1988 census, the population was 5,834 in 818 households.

Infrastructure

There is a health center in the district with a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI).
