Saga Goungou (also: Saga Gongou ) is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey IV of the city of Niamey in Niger .

Saga Goungou is located in the south of the urban area of ​​Niamey on the Niger River . The neighborhood is part of the historical center of Saga .

history

According to the local chronicle, Saga Goungou was founded in the late 16th century as one of the four oldest neighborhoods in Saga. The other three are Saga Fondobon , Saga Gassia Kouara, and Saga Sambou Koira . Mali Moussa, a son of the founder of Saga, Moussa Zarmakoye, is considered the founder of Saga Goungou.

At the 2012 census, Saga Goungou had 6,327 residents who lived in 958 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 2,390 in 369 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 3,338 in 479 households.
