Talladjé is located in the southeast of the urban area between Niamey Airport in the east and the Niamey Green Belt in the west. The Pays Bas-Tondi Gammé district is to the south of the district, across National Road 1 . The Talladjé Est district connects to the northeast . Talladjé extends over an area of about 164.4 hectares and is mostly in a plateau with a layer of sand that is more than 2.5 meters deep in the north and less than 2.5 meters in the center. The soil in the south is rich in iron, which means that no infiltration is possible. In the traditional system of rule (chefferie traditionnelle) , the district is subordinate to the head of the Saga canton .

The standard scheme for street names in Talladjé is rue TJ 1 , where the French rue for street is followed by TJ for Talladjé and finally a number. This goes back to a project to name streets in Niamey in 2002, in which the city was divided into 44 zones, each with its own letter abbreviations.

history

The name Talladjé comes from the Fulfulde language and means "at the feet of the baobab tree ". The field name already existed in the 19th century, long before the settlement was founded. Koado is the corresponding place name in the Zarma language .

The district emerged uncontrollably as an informal settlement from 1966 near the industrial area of Gamkalley on the eastern exit of the city to Niamey Airport. The local founder Soumana Sagaizé and his family came from Saga to the south and owned fields in Talladjé. The first permanent settler was Hamani Hama, his older brother. Soumana Sagaizé followed him when he had to provide parts of his property in Saga for a new school building. Her example was followed by other settlers from various Niameys districts who could not or would not legally acquire real estate. Talladjé developed from a small Fulbe settlement into a large suburb dominated by Hausa . Already in 1976 over 5000 people lived here.

Soumana Sagaizé took care of the land allocation and “town planning”, who also took into account space for planned public facilities such as a school, a mosque or a market. Another problem besides the illegality of the settlement was the inadequate water and electricity supply. Under the name Talladjé-Talladjé were taxis known which connect the area with the city center and the airport. In 1980 and 1982 parts of Talladjé were demolished for security reasons. After infrastructural expansion, the district was finally legalized by the authorities in 1981.

population

At the 2012 census, Talladjé had 34,736 inhabitants who lived in 5,592 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 36,033 in 5,579 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 26,417 in 4,010 households.

Infrastructure

Talladjé Market was established in 1990 and is located in the center of the district, where it extends over an area of 0.36 hectares. It serves to supply the district and has no other meaning.

There are several public primary schools in Talladjé. The oldest, the Ecole primaire de Talladjé I , was founded in 1978.

There is a health center in the district with a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI).

The Center National d'Activités Socio Educatives et Culturelles de Talladjé is a large state youth center founded in 2001, which is also important for the neighboring districts.
