Aéroport I (also: Aviation I , Saga Aviation ) is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey IV of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

Aéroport I is located on the eastern edge of the urban municipality of Niamey. Niamey Airport is located to the north of the district, across National Road 1 . To the south is the Aéroport II district . The soils in Aéroport I are predominantly rich in iron, which means that no infiltration is possible. In the traditional system of rule (chefferie traditionnelle) , the district is subordinate to the head of the Saga canton .

history

The neighborhood was founded in the 1950s to provide housing for airport employees and military personnel. The apartments were partly privately owned and partly state-owned as rental apartments. In the 1960s, the quarter grew due to immigration from the interior. At the end of the 1960s, Aéroport II was founded as an extension. With the division of Niamey into five districts in 1979 Aviation became part of the 3rd district, which in 1989 with the 4th district in the sub-municipality Niamey II was dissolved, which in turn was dissolved in 1996 in the previous form.

population

At the 2012 census, Aéroport I had 46,177 inhabitants living in 6,914 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 31,917 in 4,933 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 7,471 in 1,049 households.
