Bobiel (also: Bobiol ) is a neighborhood ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey I of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

Bobiel is located to the northwest of the Niamey urban parish. The neighboring districts include Cité Chinoise in the east and Riyad in the south. Bobiel extends over an area of about 90.5 hectares and, like the entire north of Niamey, lies in a plateau with a layer of sand less than 2.5 meters deep, which means that only limited infiltration is possible. When it rains heavily, the roads are flooded, causing traffic problems.

history

In the 1970s there was still a vacant treeless arable area here. The Bobiel district finally emerged after 1989. Administratively it belonged to Niamey II until the beginning of the 21st century, when it changed to Niamey I.

population

At the 2012 census, Bobiel had 48,551 residents who lived in 8476 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 2,161 in 347 households.

Infrastructure

There are several public primary schools in the district. Fire caused severe damage to primary schools Bobiel 2 and Bobiel 4 in April 2014.
