Losso Goungou (also: Lossa Goungou , Lossagoungou , Lossogoungou ) is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey I of the city of Niamey in Niger .

Losso Goungou is located on the left bank of the Niger River and on the western edge of the urban parish of Niamey. The surrounding settlements are the Koubia Sud district in the north, the Goudel district in the east and the rural village of Kossèye in the west. Losso Goungou is located in a plateau with a more than 2.5 meters deep sand layer, whereby a better infiltration as is possible in other parts of the city.

A dry valley , the Lossagoungou Gorou, which flows into the Niger River, runs through the district . The dry valley has a length of 10 kilometers and a catchment area of ​​more than 50 square kilometers. The word gorou comes from the Zarma language and means "dry valley".

history

The village of Losso Goungou already existed in the 19th century, before the city of Niamey was founded at the beginning of the 20th century. As of 2010, 200 apartments were built here for members of the Nigerien armed forces .

population

At the 2012 census, Losso Goungou had 8,189 inhabitants who lived in 1,378 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 2,600 in 417 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 1,304 in 180 households.

Infrastructure

The public primary school Ecole primaire de Losso Goungou was founded in 1981. There is also a secondary school of the type Collège d'enseignement général (CEG). There is a health center in the district with a Center de Santé Intégré (CSI).
