Corniche Yantala is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey I of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

Corniche Yantala is located on the left bank of the Niger River in Niamey city center. The French word corniche means a road above a coast. Yantala is a district of Niameys located northwest of Corniche Yantala. Other surrounding neighborhoods include Château 1 in the north and Kombo in the east. The north of the district is in a table land with a sand layer more than 2.5 meters deep, which allows better infiltration than in other parts of the city. The shore zone in the south, on the other hand, consists of an alluvial soil with a high groundwater level that does not allow infiltration.

history

The Corniche Yantala coastal road was so named on May 13, 1973 when dozen other roads were named in Niamey.

At the 2012 census, Corniche Yantala had 2,617 inhabitants who lived in 452 households.

Economy and Infrastructure

Vegetables are grown in the district, including batavia lettuce . The vegetable growers at Corniche Yantala work together in a cooperative . The quarter also has an important landing stage for fishing on the Niger.
