Francophonie (also: Village de la Francophonie ) is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey I of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

Francophonie is located on National Road 24 in the northwest of the urban parish of Niamey. Neighboring districts include North Faisceau in the east and Cité Chinoise in the south. Like the entire north of Niamey, Francophonie lies in a plateau with a sand layer less than 2.5 meters deep, which means that only limited infiltration is possible.

history

The settlement was laid out on the occasion of the Francophonie Games that took place in Niamey in 2005. The officer Abdou Kaza , then aide-de-camp of President Mamadou Tandja , was in charge of the general supervision of the construction work .

population

At the 2012 census, Francophonie had 2,497 inhabitants who lived in 467 households.
