Location of Gorou Banda in Niger

Gorou Banda is a village in the Niamey I arrondissement of the city of Niamey in Niger .

The village, run by a traditional chief ( chef traditionnel ), is located on the Niger River in the west of the rural municipal area of the Nigerien capital Niamey. The neighboring villages include Boubon upstream and Tondi Koirey downstream . A dry valley that flows into the Niger runs near the village, which endangers the settlement if the water supply is too strong. The word gorou comes from the Zarma language and means "dry valley". The Zarma- Postposition banda called "after, behind." The place name Gorou Banda can therefore be translated as "behind the dry valley".

In the years 2000, 2002 and 2013 the fashion event Festival International de la Mode en Afrique (FIMA) took place in Gorou Banda.

At the 2012 census, the village had 699 inhabitants who lived in 77 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 409 in 52 households.

In Gorou Banda there are Moringa gardens that are cultivated by women.
