Boubon is a village in the rural municipality of Karma , Niger .

The fishing village of Boubon is located on the Niger River northwest of the capital Niamey , from which it can be reached by road and by pirogue . Numerous hippos live in front of Boubon .

The village was founded around 1340 by a Songhai group. At the beginning of the 17th century, Zarma settled the place. In the 19th century Boubon belonged to the emirate of Gwandu , which in turn was part of the Sokoto Caliphate . In 2003 the International de la Mode en Afrique fashion festival took place in Boubon and in 2007 it was one of the venues for the first edition of the Pripalo open-air cultural festival under the direction of Achirou Wagé . The village was badly affected by the flood disaster in West and Central Africa in 2010 , when 2317 residents were classified as disaster victims.

Boubon had 4,423 inhabitants in 589 households in the 1988 census and 5,300 inhabitants in 676 households in the 2001 census. At the 2012 census, the population was 1,829 in 261 households.

On the outskirts there is a small Friday mosque a long way from the settlements . The mosque dates back to 1947 and covers an area of ​​260 square meters that is gently sloping. The surrounding plantings consist of niece trees . The prayer room building of the mosque is designed as a pronounced longitudinal structure and has no courtyard. The mihrab -Vorbau decorated cuboid with Eckzinnen. The outer walls are unadorned and not structured. The large windows are protected by sheet metal shutters. There are entrances on all sides. There is also a high Adhān platform on the south side . On the west side there is a shade roof over four free pillars. The interior has 13 transversal aisles, which are supported by an irregularly distributed multitude of supports. In the southeast corner there is a minbar pedestal.

The market day is Wednesday. In addition to fish and rice from the region, pottery made in the village is sold.
