history

In 1970 the Kennedy Bridge was built over the Niger, which increased the population on the right bank of the river. Just one year later, the State Abdou Moumouni University Niamey was opened in Niamey V. In 1984 Niamey was divided into five districts, with the area on the right bank of the river forming the 5th district. In 1989, the 5th district was converted to the municipality of Niamey III , which should not be confused with today's Arrondissement Niamey III . Niamey V has had his current name since 1996. In 2010, the municipalities of Niameys were converted into arrondissements.
