Bougoum is a hamlet in the Niamey V arrondissement of the city of Niamey in Niger .

The hamlet is located on the national road 6 leading to the state border with Burkina Faso on the southwestern edge of the rural area of ​​Niamey V. The surrounding hamlets include Lougadjam and Tchangaré in the north, Yowaré in the northeast and Bibia in the southeast. A side valley of the 17 km long dry valley Kourtéré Gorou runs near Bougoum , which flows into the Niger River behind Kourtéré . In the plain of Bougoum, rainfall forms smaller ponds that dry out after winter. In the 1950s, the vegetation in the area was dominated by Tigerbusch . Since then, it has declined sharply due to climatic changes and human intervention on site. The plants found here include desert dates , ana trees , doum palms , African baobabs , Guiera senegalensis , Kinkéliba , Combretum glutinosum , Arabian acacia trees and Indian jujubes .

The majority of the population in this area belongs to the Fulbe ethnic group . At the 2012 census, Bougoum had 1,077 residents who lived in 173 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 606 in 91 households.

The infrastructure in the Bougoum includes a health center (case de santé) , two schools, two mosques and a cattle vaccination station. In addition, there is a large weekly market where agricultural products, firewood and fodder are sold. In the hamlet, irrigation and rain farming are carried out. The main vegetables grown are okra and cucumber .
