Guiera senegalensis is the only plant species of the genus Guiera within the family of combretaceae (Combretaceae). It grows in the Sahel and Sudan zones from Senegal to the Central African Republic.

description

Guiera senegalensis grows as a shrub and reaches heights of about 1 to 2 meters. The opposite leaves are short stalked and the blue-green, egg-shaped to elliptical leaf blade is covered with numerous black glandular points.

The cream-white to yellowish flowers are in spherical inflorescences with a diameter of up to 15 mm. The approximately 3 to 4.5 cm long fruits are densely covered by silky, pink-gray hair.

use

The wood is used as firewood, young twigs also as toothbrushes. Leaves, fruits and roots are used in human and veterinary medicine.
