Séno is a district ( French quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey V of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

Séno is located in the south of the urban part of Niamey V. The surrounding neighborhoods are Banga Bana in the north and Saguia in the east. In the Séno plain, small ponds are formed by rainfall, which dry up after winter.

history

The Séno district was founded in 2012 to relocate the victims of a flood disaster. The Niger River in Niamey reached the highest levels since 1929 in August 2012 with a water level of 618 cm and a flow rate of 2,473 m 3 per second. In the entire city area, 6,553 households were affected by the floods. In Séno, households from flood-prone areas were settled in the four districts of Karadjé , Kirkissoye , Lamordé and Nogaré . The relocation of around 750 households was considered complete in February 2013. It was accompanied by a multitude of problems. For example, the planned properties were not given at all or to the wrong people. Some people mistakenly declared themselves flood victims and settled in the new school buildings in Séno in order to benefit from the international relief efforts. Others did not have the means to build houses on the land provided, or they could not earn their living there as usual. A number of people sold the land assigned to them and returned to their flood-prone areas of origin.

population

At the 2012 census, Séno had 3,152 inhabitants living in 262 households.

Infrastructure

In Séno there is a simple health center (case de santé) and a primary school.
