Kossey (also: Kossèye ) is a village in the Arrondissement Niamey V of the city of Niamey in Niger .

The village, run by a traditional local chief (chef traditionnel) , is located near the Niger River in the northwest of the rural area of ​​Niamey V. At Kossey, the national road 4 runs towards Téra . The surrounding settlements include the hamlet of Birniol in the north-west, the village of Ganguel in the south-east and the hamlet of Kolonsa in the south-west.

The place name refers to the plant species Piliostigma reticulatum in the Zarma language . Kossey already existed in the 1970s when the city of Niamey began to expand to the right bank of the Niger. The village was outside the city limits of Niamey until the end of the 20th century and belonged to the arrondissement of Kollo . In the flood disaster of 2010 , which hit Niamey on the night of August 5th to 6th, Kossey was one of the most affected districts , along with Karadjé , Kombo , Lamordé and Zarmagandey . Four houses in Kossey were flooded and four more were declared in danger of collapse.

At the 2012 census, Kossey had 339 residents who lived in 49 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 302 in 46 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 110 in 11 households.

Arable farming is practiced in Kossey. There is a primary school in the village.
