Nogaré is a district ( French : quartier ) in the Arrondissement Niamey V of the city of Niamey in Niger .

geography

The district is located in the north of Niamey V on the Niger River . Nogaré borders in the east on the Institut National de la Jeunesse, des Sports et de la Culture , in the south on the area of the Abdou Moumouni University Niamey and in the west on the Lamordé district . Nogaré extends over an area of about 34.9 hectares . The district lies on an alluvial floor , which mainly allows infiltration. There the groundwater is at risk of being contaminated. On the river bank zone in the north, however, the water table is so high that no infiltration is possible, which in turn increases the risk of flooding.

The standard scheme for street names in Nogaré is rue NO 1 , where the French rue for street is followed by NO for Nogaré and finally a number. This goes back to a project to name streets in Niamey in 2002, in which the city was divided into 44 zones, each with its own letter abbreviations.

history

Nogaré was originally a Fulbe village that existed before 1930. It was incorporated into Niamey in the 1970s after the Kennedy Bridge was built over the Niger River. In the period from 1971 to 1976 there was an expansion through the construction of new apartments. The relocation of around 750 flood-affected households from the Nogaré, Karadjé , Lamordé and Kirkissoye districts to the new Séno district was completed in February 2013.

population

At the 2012 census, Nogaré had 5,662 inhabitants who lived in 1,009 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 4125 in 630 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 3352 in 596 households.

Economy and Infrastructure

Most of the nurseries in Nogaré are run by Gourmantché who, however, do not own the land. Mainly lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, pumpkins, melons and okra are grown there and are intended for sale.

There are several primary schools in the district. The public primary school Ecole primaire de Nogaré was founded in 1981.
