Centrophryne spinulosa is a species of deep-sea frogfish (Ceratioidei) thatlives at great depthsin tropical and subtropical regions in the Atlantic , Pacific and Indian Oceans between 30 ° north and 25 ° south latitude . 25 specimens have been caught so far. Centrophryne spinulosa is systematicallyisolated and the only species in the genus and family. Phylogenetically , the species forms the sister group of Neoceratias spinifer .

Female Centrophryne spinulosa have a large head with a large mouth. The "Illicium" (Angel) is always kinked. The gill opening is a hole that is just behind the base of the pectoral fin. The body has a smaller diameter than the head. The skin is covered with small skin tags. The dorsal fin has five to seven rays , the anal fin five to six. Female fish are up to 24.5 centimeters long. They are dark brown to black in color. So far, only a single adult male, 1.28 centimeters tall, has been captured. Your skin is bare, without any skin tags. The males live free-swimming and are not attached to the female as is the case with some other deep-sea frogfish.
