Centuries is an American hardcore punk band from West Palm Beach , Florida that was formed in 2008.

history

The band was formed in 2008. This was followed by the publication of various records, as well as appearances together with bands such as Heartless , Gaza and Capitalist Casualties . At the end of 2012 the band also went on a European tour with the Polish group Drip of Lies . After the band had signed a contract with the Southern Lord label , the debut album Taedium Vitae was released in August 2013 . The album was recorded a few months earlier at Legitimate Business in Greensboro under the direction of Kris Hillbert .

style

According to James Christopher Monger from Allmusic , the band plays a mix of hardcore punk , metalcore , crustcore and D-beat . According to Thomas Sonder from Metal Hammer , the band's lyrics are about the everyday oppression that every human being would experience, such as the end of a relationship or witnessing how a good friend destroys himself. With the album title one wants to thematize conditions like coldness, decay, slavery or disappointment. In his review of Taedium Vitae , Christian Kruse from Metal Hammer assigned the band to the D-Beat, with the vocals being hoarse and shouting mixed into the background. According to Michael Echomaker from Ox-Fanzine , the band is a new school variant of Cursed . In an interview with Echomaker, Rodriguez stated that the band processed personal experiences in their lyrics. According to Matin Nawabi from Ox-Fanzine , the band plays a mixture of crustcore and hardcore punk on Broken Hymns . According to Echomaker in his review of Taedium Vitae , the band played on the split release with Patsy O'Hara as if the music of Cursed had been mixed with D-beat. The band also mixed melodies with dark hardcore punk. On Taedium Vitae the singing is now "throatier" and less comparable to that of Cursed. In addition, one can see minor influences from Black Metal . In the music, the band deal with topics of pain, tragedy and hate.
