Ceraleptus gracilicornis is a bug from the family of border bugs (Coreidae).

features

The bugs grow to be 10.5–12 mm long. They are brownish in color. The head has light vertical stripes. The first antenna segment is dark and thick. The second and third segments are colored red, while the fourth antenna segment is again dark colored and club-shaped. The pronotum has a slight indentation on the sides. The apical tip of the label is white. The membrane is dark in color. The side edge of the abdomen (connexive) has a black-pale yellow pattern. The legs have dark patterned femora . There are two large thorns on the posterior femora. The pale yellow tibia is slightly darkened halfway along and has a black apical tip.

distribution and habitat

Ceraleptus gracilicornis occurs mainly in the Mediterranean area. The distribution area of ​​the warmth-loving species extends in the north to Central Europe, where it occurs in places with less heat, for example in the Upper Rhine Rift in southwest Germany or in the east of Austria (Burgenland, Styria, Lower Austria). In addition to Ceraleptus gracilicornis, there is also Ceraleptus lividus from the Holarctic genus Ceraleptus in Central Europe .

Way of life

The animals live in different leguminous plants (Faboideae), such as clover ( Trifolium ), alfalfa ( Medicago ), grass pea ( Lathyrus ) and vetch ( Vicia ). The wintering Imagines appear in late April, the nymphs to take place from June to August and the adult animals of the new generation from August, which are active before the winter until September or October.
