Cereus trigonodendron is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet trigonodendron means 'three-edged tree'.
description
Cereus trigonodendron grows tree-shaped with up to 20 parallel, upright shoots and reaches heights of 10 to 15 meters. A short trunk with a diameter of 20 to 25 centimeters is formed. The columnar, bluish gray-green shoots have a diameter of 10 to 15 centimeters, rarely more than 5 centimeters. There are three to five, rarely six, narrow wing-like ribs . The areoles on it are about 2.5 centimeters apart and are covered with a little gray-brown wool. The seven to nine stiff, stinging thorns arising from them are initially brown to black and later gray to yellowish. They are 3 to 35 millimeters long. One to three thorns are longer than the rest.
The flowers are 15 to 16 centimeters long and 7 to 8 centimeters in diameter. Your green flower tube widens like a funnel towards the top. It is 11 centimeters long and has a few scales. The outer bracts are red to red-brown, the inner white. The up to 5.5 to 7 centimeters long, smooth, yellow fruits have a diameter of 5 to 6 centimeters. They are egg-shaped to almost spherical and contain a glassy white pulp . The matt black seeds contained in the fruits are kidney-shaped and heavily tuberous.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Cereus trigonodendron is in the Peruvian region of San Martín in the district of Tarapoto common. The first description was published in 1913 by Friedrich Karl Johann Vaupel .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
