Cerochlamys is a plant kind from the family of aizoaceae (Aizoaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek words "keros" for "wax" and "chlamys" for "coat" and refers to the wax film that covers the leaves of the plants.

description

The plants of the genus Cerochlamys grow compact and are almost lawn-forming with age. Their triangular leaves are almost not grown together. The keel is often crooked and the side surfaces are very uneven. The leaf surface is wrinkled. The wall of the epidermis contains crystal sand in the middle . The thick layer of wax consists of horizontal plates.

The individual (rarely up to three) flowers are above bracts . There are five to six identical sepals . Their petals are either pink with a white base or completely white, the anthers are yellow or orange. The very broad nectaries touch each other.

The five to sixfold capsule fruits stay on the plant and contain pear-shaped seeds that are 0.75 to 0.85 millimeters long and 0.55 to 0.65 millimeters wide.

Systematics and distribution

The distribution area of the genus Cerochlamys is the Little Karoo in the central part of the South African province of Western Cape . The plants grow in crevices or on slate. The annual rainfall is 100 to 200 millimeters, with the majority falling in the months of March and November.

The first description was published in 1928 by Nicholas Edward Brown . The holotype is Cerochlamys trigona . According to Heidrun Hartmann (* 1942) the genus Cerochlamys includes the following species:
