The Cerro Pucarani (also Cerro Villa Pucarani or Vila Pucarani ) is a 4910 meter high volcano in the Oruro department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
The Pucarani is located on the Bolivian Altiplano in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Coipasa in the province of Sabaya . The mountain protrudes from the north-western section of the Salar de Coipasa , the second largest salt lake in the country, and towers over the lake surface by more than 1200 meters. During the dry season in the spring of the southern hemisphere, the mountain and the island's settlements can be reached with dry feet. The largest settlement is Coipasa with 484 inhabitants ( 2001 census ):
