Coipasa is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Coipasa is the central place of the Municipio Coipasa in the province of Sabaya . The village is located on the Bolivian Altiplano at an altitude of 3692  m in the northeastern part of about 135 km² island Pucarani in salt lake Salar de Coipasa .

The climate in the region is semi-arid , the annual precipitation is only 200 mm (see climate diagram Sabaya). From April to November there is a dry season with monthly values ​​of less than 10 mm of precipitation, the wet season in summer is short and the rain is not very productive. Transport network

Coipasa is located 239 kilometers southwest of Oruro , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Oruro, the largely unpaved national road Ruta 12 leads 189 kilometers in a south-westerly direction via Ancaravi and Huachacalla to Sabaya and on to Pisiga on the Chilean border. An unpaved road leads south from Sabaya and reaches Coipasa after about 50 kilometers .
