The Cetiosauridae were basal Sauropoda that lived from the Lower Jurassic to the Upper Jurassic . They had a massive body, a relatively short tail, and relatively heavy bones. The Cetiosauridae included Chebsaurus , Amygdalodon , Volkheimeria , Patagosaurus , possibly Haplocanthosaurus and Cetiosaurus .

Late forms of the Cetiosauridae vary widely in the proportions of the body, neck, and tail. The skull and teeth are also very different. It is therefore believed that among them are possibly the ancestral forms of the sauropod taxa of the late Jurassic and Cretaceous , the Diplodocidae , the Brachiosauridae and the Titanosauridae . The Cetiosauridae are therefore considered paraphyletic .
