Chó do Guri

Maria de Fátima - better known by her pseudonym Chó do Guri - (born January 24, 1959 in Quibala , Cuanza Sul province , Portuguese Angola ; † July 7, 2017 in Luanda ) was an Angolan poet and writer .

Life

Maria de Fátima was born on January 24, 1959 in the small town of Quibala in the Cuanza Sul province of the Portuguese colony of Angola. When she was two years old, Fátima moved with her mother to the capital Luanda , where they both initially lived in the Bairro Opérario district . When she was four years old, his mother gave Fátima to a house for disadvantaged children because she could no longer support them. Fátima grew up there and completed her school education in Luanda.

After completing school, Fátima first studied social work at the Universidade Aberta in Lisbon. In 1988 Fátima published her first poem under her pseudonym in the magazine Mural , a magazine of the Angolan student organization in Portugal. From then on, Fátima concentrated primarily on writing and published numerous works. In 1996 she published the first anthology of her poems under the title Vivências .

For her novel Chiquito de Camuxiba she won the 2003 Prize for African Literature in Portuguese from the Instituto Marquês de Valle Flor .

With the support of the Goethe Institute established in 2009 in the Angolan capital Luanda, Fátima also had her work A filha do Alemão translated into German.
