There are also two black lines on each side of the pronotum and a dark spot at the apical end of the label . The compound eyes shimmer green. The wings are predominantly colored light brown. distribution

Chaetorellia jaceae is widespread in Europe. Their occurrence ranges from the Mediterranean region in the south to England and Scandinavia in the north. In the east, the occurrence extends to the Middle East .

Way of life

The Bohrfliegenart uses as host plants different knapweed , including the Meadow knapweed ( Centaurea jacea ), the Centaurea nigra ( Centaurea nigra ), Centaurea debeauxii and the Greater Knapweed ( Centaurea scabiosa ). In addition, the common thistle ( Cirsium vulgare ) is considered to be a host plant for bored flies. The larvae develop in the flower heads of their host plants. The bored flies can be seen from June to August. They are flower visitors of umbellifers like the Berg-Haarstrang . The species forms 1–2 generations per year. The overwintering generation pupates in autumn.
