The 1st Champions Trophy took place from November 17 to 24, 1978 in the Pakistani city of Lahore . The venue for the competitions was the Gaddafi Stadium . For the first and last time the tournament was held on natural grass. Contrary to the original plans, which included six participants, only five associations accepted the invitation to Pakistan. India canceled its participation due to logistical problems.
