Chapelle de Reugny
The Chapelle de Reugny (also: Notre-Dame de Reugny ) is an early Gothic priory church near Laféline in the Allier department in Auvergne . The building should not be confused with the Prieuré Notre-Dame de Reugny, 20 kilometers northwest .
history
Notre Dame was built in the late 12th century as the house of worship for a small Augustinian priory. The most important component was a richly decorated west portal, which came into the possession of the art collector George Blumenthal after 1920, who had it installed in his Paris apartment.
In 1934 Blumenthal donated the portal to The Cloisters Museum in New York City , where it now serves as the entrance to the cloister of the monastery of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, which has also been transferred there. Notre-Dame itself is classified as a French monument historique .
