Charbel Nahas

Charbel Nahas ( Arabic شربل نحاس DMG šarbel naḥas; born August 16, 1954 in Beirut , Lebanon ) is a Lebanese politician . Since June 2011 he has been Minister for Labor and Social Affairs in Najib Mikati's cabinet . He is also a former telecommunications minister in Saad Hariri's cabinet from November 2009 to June 2011. He is a member of the Free Patriotic Movement led by Michel Aoun .

Life

Charbel Nahas graduated from the École polytechnique and the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris in 1967 and 1978. He received his doctorate in social anthropology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in 1980. He was then director for twelve years the civil engineering department at the Lebanese University . Nahas is an economist and has worked and published a lot on topics related to Lebanese economics . He also advised several Lebanese and international organizations such as the World Bank and the United Nations .

He belongs to the Maronite Church .
