Chariton Platonovich Platonov ( Russian Харитон Платонович Платонов , Ukrainian Харитон Платонович Платонов / Charyton Platonowytsch Platonov , transliteration Chariton Platonovič Platonov ; * in 1842 in the village Worona, government Yaroslavl , Russian Empire , † September 5 . Jul / 18th September  1907 greg. In Kiev , Kyiv Governorate , Russian Empire) was a Russian and Ukrainian genre painter .

Life

The farmer's son Chariton Platonov studied at the Imperial Art Academy in Saint Petersburg from 1859 to 1870 . After graduating, he became an art teacher in a Russian district school.

From 1879 on he lived in Kiev and taught between 1880 and 1900 at the drawing school of Mykola Muraschko and after its closure from 1901 at the newly founded Kiev art school. He also took part in the restoration of the medieval frescoes of the Monastery of St. Cyril in Kiev.

His pictures with scenes of graceful peasant girls or women in domestic surroundings gained recognition. With his pleasantly looking motifs with graceful and expressive gestures and pictures decorated with little decoration, he created a kind of personification of the cute and childish. The main feature of his work was the slightly grayish tone of his works.
