Charles Boyle, 3rd Viscount Dungarvan

Charles Boyle, 3rd Viscount Dungarvan (baptized December 12, 1639 - October 12, 1694 in Londesborough, Yorkshire ), was an English nobleman and politician.

Life

He was the son of Richard Boyle, 2nd Earl of Cork , and Elizabeth Clifford, 2nd Baroness Clifford . As his father's apparent marriage , he carried the courtesy title Viscount Dungarvan from 1643 . He was baptized in the home of Sir Thomas Stafford in London .

On January 8, 1663 he was appointed by Writ of Acceleration to the Irish House of Lords and thereby inherited the subordinate Irish title of his father as 3rd Viscount Dungarvan prematurely . On January 6, 1664 he was accepted as a Fellow in the Royal Society .

He was repeatedly elected to the House of Commons in England , from 1670 to 1679 as Burgess for Tamworth , 1679 to 1681 and 1685 to 1687 as Knight of the Shire for Yorkshire .

His father had meanwhile also been awarded the English titles Earl of Burlington and Baron Clifford of Lanesborough . On July 16, 1689 he was appointed to the English House of Lords by Writ of Acceleration and thereby inherited the subordinate English title of his father as 2nd Baron Clifford of Lanesborough prematurely .

When his mother died on January 6, 1691, he inherited her English title of 3rd Baron Clifford .

He died on October 12, 1694 in his estate Londesborough Hall in Yorkshire and was buried in the family vault there on October 28, 1694. Since he died before his father, it was not he, but his eldest son Charles who inherited his remaining nobility titles as 3rd Earl of Cork and 2nd Earl of Burlington.

Marriages and offspring

His first marriage was on May 7, 1661, Lady Jane Seymour (1637–1679), daughter of William Seymour, 2nd Duke of Somerset .

In his second marriage, shortly before May 12, 1688, he married Lady Arethusa Berkeley († 1743), daughter of George Berkeley, 1st Earl of Berkeley . With her he had a daughter:

  • Lady Arethusa Boyle ⚭ James Vernon.
