Charles Boyle, 3rd Earl of Cork, 2nd Earl of Burlington (* before 1674, † February 9, 1704 in Chiswick ) was an English nobleman and politician.

Life

He was the elder son of Charles Boyle, 3rd Viscount Dungarvan (1639-1694) and Lady Jane Seymour (1637-1679), daughter of William Seymour, 2nd Duke of Somerset . On his father's side, he was a grandson of Richard Boyle, 2nd Earl of Cork , 1st Earl of Burlington (1612–1698).

1690 he was appointed as a deputy for the Borough Appleby in Westmorland the English House of Commons voted. In parliament he belonged to the Tory party . He held the House of Commons mandate until 1694, when he inherited his father's title of 4th Viscount Dungarvan , 3rd Baron Clifford of Lanesborough and 4th Baron Clifford on the death of his father . He thereby became a member of both the English and Irish House of Lords . As early as 1691 he had been appointed governor of County Cork .

In 1695 he was appointed Lord High Treasurer of Ireland and accepted into the Irish Privy Council . From 1697 to 1702 he also held the court office of the Gentleman of the Bedchamber for King Wilhelm III. inside.

When his grandfather died in 1698, he also inherited his nobility titles as 3rd Earl of Cork , 2nd Earl of Burlington , 3rd Viscount Boyle of Kinalmeaky and 3rd Baron Boyle of Youghal .

From 1699 he also held the office of Lord Lieutenant of the West Riding of Yorkshire and from 1701 also that of Vice-Admiral of Yorkshire . In 1702 he was also admitted to the English Privy Council. From 1702 he was one of the negotiators for the Kingdom of England negotiating a possible union with the Kingdom of Scotland .

He died on February 9, 1704 at his home in Chiswick, near London, and was buried in the family vault in Londesborough, Yorkshire , on February 28, 1704 . His son Richard inherited his title of nobility.
