Gerhardt Plöchl

Gerhardt Plöchl (born April 26, 1933 in Bad Ischl , Upper Austria ; † February 13, 2020 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer and university professor .

Life

Gerhardt Plöchl studied and did his doctorate in Dr. iur. in law . Since 1956 he was a member of the Catholic student association KaV Norica Vienna in the ÖCV . He initially worked in industry and business, including Secretary General of NEWAG . In 1972, after completing his habilitation, he became a university lecturer at the University of Vienna, and in 1979 he was appointed associate professor at the Institute for Commercial and Securities Law at the University of Vienna. He has published numerous scientific publications, mainly in public business law, corporate law, public companies and legal theory. For his teaching activities he was honored by the Austrian Federal President with the Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class (Officer's Cross) .

Gerhardt Plöchl was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1968 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and invested by Auxiliary Bishop Jakob Weinbacher , Grand Prior of the Austrian Lieutenancy .

He was a founding member, president and board member of Christian Solidarity International (CSI) (since 2019 in Austria: "Christians in Need") in Austria. For his commitment he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Papal Order of Gregory .

About his uncle, the legal scholar and canon lawyer Willibald Plöchl , he wrote a comprehensive treatise on an Austrian government in exile after 1938 based on the documentation archive of the Austrian Resistance in 2007. His brother, the chemist Josef Maria Plöchl , was a resistance fighter against National Socialism and was executed in Hamburg-Blankenese in 1944 .
