Charles C. Steidel
Charles Colville Steidel (born October 14, 1962 in Ithaca , New York ) is an American astronomer .
Life
Steidel studied at Princeton University and received his PhD in Astronomy from the California Institute of Technology in 1990 . Since 2004 he has been professor of astronomy there.
The work of Steidel and colleagues brought about a breakthrough in the observation of normal galaxies in the early universe through the discovery and investigation of many Lyman break galaxies and similar galaxies. Prior to this, extreme objects such as quasars and radio galaxies were mainly known to exist in this epoch .
