Charles Joshua Chaplin (born June 8, 1825 in Les Andelys , France , † January 30, 1891 in Paris ) was a French painter and engraver .

Chaplin was a student of Martin Drolling and initially painted landscapes . He later switched to boudoir painting , which he did in the manner of the painter François Boucher . Louise Abbéma became his pupil in 1873.

As a copper engraver, Chaplin often found his subjects in the works of Peter Paul Rubens and Jean-Antoine Watteau ; but he also erased according to his own ideas.

The painter Charles Joshua Chaplin died on January 30, 1891 in Paris at the age of almost 66. He is buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery.
