Charles Henry John Benedict Crofton Chetwynd Chetwynd-Talbot, 22. Earl of Shrewsbury , DL (* 18th December 1952 ) is a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party . Until 1980 he was known by the courtesy title Viscount Ingestre .

life and career

Chetwynd-Talbot was born on December 18, 1952, the eldest son of John Chetwynd-Talbot, 21st Earl of Shrewsbury , and Nadine Crofton († 2003). He also has four sisters. He attended Harrow School in London . He left school at the age of 16 and became a student on a farm in Shropshire .

From 1988 to 1991 he was Deputy Chairman ( Deputy Chairman ) of the Britannia Building Society , from 1983 to 1992 he was director there. He is the patron ( patron ) of the St Giles Hospice . He is Honorary President of SSAFA Forces Help ( Wolverhampton ) and Vice-President of the Shropshire Building Preservation Trust . He is also Vice President of the Shropshire Building Preservation Trust and the Staffordshire Small-bore Rifle Association . From 1992 to 1997 he was President of the Building Societies Association and from 1996 to 1997 of the British Institute of Innkeepers . He was also president of the Gun Trade Association .

From 1994 to 1999 he was Chairman of the Firearms Consultative Committee . From 1997 to 2001 he was director of the minibus Plus Ltd . He was Chairman of the British Shooting Sports Council from 2001 to 2008 and has been President there since 2008. He is patron ( saint ) of Albrighton Moat Project .

At the University of Wolverhampton he was chancellor from 1993 to 1999.

As the current Earl of Shrewsbury, he holds the office of Lord High Steward of Ireland . He has been Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire since 1994 . He is the chairman of Dungarvan Estates Limited .

Chetwynd-Talbot is currently not a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association .

Membership in the House of Lords

After the death of his father on November 12, 1980, he inherited his title and the associated seat in the House of Lords . He gave his inaugural address on February 25, 1982. Initially, he was a Crossbencher . Now he's the Conservative Whip .

On the official website of the House of Lords, he lists agriculture, environment , construction, real estate, West Midlands, raw materials extraction, firearms and shooting sports as his political interests .

Through the House of Lords Act 1999 he lost his automatic entitlement to his seat. Therefore, he stood for election and landed 36 out of 42 successful candidates in his party.

From the end of the 1990s, his attendance at meeting days was initially in a rather irregular area. Later she gained weight.

Honors

Chetwynd-Talbot was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws ( Hon LLD ) from the University of Wolverhampton in 1994 .

On December 28, 1973 he married Deborah Hutchinson, with whom he has three children:
